Full Weekend

Our life thankfully seems to be resuming more normalcy these days and so we took full advantage of a gorgeous weekend and enjoyed time together. The girls and I took Matt to Parky's Farm on Saturday and then to the zoo on Sunday.

Oh and in between the fun outside, we've got lots of fun going on inside our house, too - sewage and a ripped up basement! Yeah!

Sarah

Sarah Katherine
born: 7/10/07 @ 2:40am
10 ounces
7.5" long

Calley is home from the hospital now and is recovering physically very quickly, but we did lose Sarah. She was born too early Tuesday morning and did not survive the delivery. We did get to spend some time with her, though, and she and the time we shared were beautiful.

We have heavy hearts now and grieving to do ahead, but at the same time we're thankful that Calley's health is improving and for the love and support we've received from family, friends, doctors and nurses over the last two weeks.

Sarah, you will be missed, but never forgotten.

Update on Calley

For those of you who don't know about our past week, I'll recap as quickly as possible and will try to provide updates here as they come.

Severe abdominal pain last Friday night resulted in an ER visit, which resulted in a test that revealed a large mass in one of Calley's ovaries, which resulted in an emergency surgery on Saturday to remove said ovary (which had ruptured), which resulted in persistent contractions that needed to be controlled with some heavy duty intravenous medication, which resulted in an extra four days on the labor and delivery floor of the hospital. (Does everyone know that Cal is almost 18 weeks pregnant? Of course that made all of this more complicated.)

Now we're home, but Cal is still pretty miserable. The pain from a surgery like this is only exacerbated by the pregnancy and the contractions. It's important to control the contractions she's still having periodically, and the medicine that does so gives her brutal headaches. So bad that they make her nauseated. Oh, and she can't drive for two weeks, can't lift anything heavier than five pounds and has to stay in bed or in a chair pretty much all day for a while.

All this crap aside, we're very thankful that the baby appears to be doing just fine, for the excellent care Cal received from her OB/GYN and the doctors and nurses at Christ hospital, and for all the help we've received over the last several days from our friends and family, without whom I really don't know what we would've done. Naomi and Selah are with my parents right now so Cal can have a couple of quiet, peaceful days for beginning her recovery at home. We miss them.
