5 Months

Naomi is five months old today. She's becoming so much fun. She is much more attentive and responsive, less fussy (except when she's particularly tired or hungry), and she's even starting to laugh. We captured her first 'sitting up' moment here, although I pretty much just balanced her. She didn't fall over right away, though, and what more is sitting than just balancing on your butt, anyway?

A Day in the Life

Cuteness. It's really her only defense mechanism, but it's quite effective.

Naomi playing on the floor, not sleeping in her crib, reading books, posing with Mom and her 'monster' cookies.

Naomi & Friends

Here's Naomi, and Naomi with some of her friends...

With Logan, Eve (Naomi's birthday "twin"), Katherine (just a few weeks old) and another with Eve - they're regular playmates.

Hail to the Queen

Keith (Queen) was in town from NC this weekend, so we got to see him for lunch and hang out for a while Saturday afternoon. It's always great to see good friends - it's just too bad it doesn't happen more often. The rumor is that he might make another appearance in the Queen city on Superbowl weekend, thanks to the powerful lure of Tony's 50" HD plasma.

Back to Basics

I know what drives the traffic to this site. Pictures of Naomi are teamchandler's bread and butter. I apologize for the lack of photos over the past couple of weeks. Too much nerd humor + not enough adorable photos = disappointed regulars.

Here's a few to tide you over until the next big entry.

New Year's Eve with Kate & Irene, eating hands and drooling (two of Naomi's current favorites), playing and getting a pseudo-bath. Cuter and cuter all the time.

A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall

With all the snow melted and the four solid days of rain we received last week, our basement had some water damage. Nothing too serious, but enough to soak a carpet that Tony and I ripped up this weekend (thanks for your help, T!) Then it was on to the bleach scrubbing and the concrete patching for me. Fun weekend.

Keeping things in perspective, many folks in Cincinnati have had it much worse than us, let alone the incomparable devastation in other parts of the world, so we should be thankful. Oh, and yesterday I got to drive the Jeep through a flooded-out stretch of road with water half way up our doors while all the more timid (or is that wiser?) drivers turned around. So that was pretty cool.

That's a submerged car's trunk lid extending from the water in this first picture. All photos taken from the Enquirer.

The forecast calls for more rain on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, so keep your fingers crossed.

More Nerd Humor

Yesterday Conan O'Brien introduced and interviewed Bill Gates at Microsoft's 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show. Conan's monologue, as usual, was hilarious. Here's a transcript.

"I got so drunk that I woke up with a hooker, Bill got so drunk he woke up with an Apple computer."
- Conan O'Brien recounting his Vegas exploits with Microsoft chairman Bill Gates.

The Curve

innovation_curve.JPG

The above graph is the Rogers adoption curve, also known as the innovation diffusion curve. Basically, the area of the segments of this normal distribution (or "bell curve") represent the proportions of the population that possess certain characteristics, or more specifically, tendencies to adopt new technologies. I was thinking today about how I've always wanted to be an early adopter, but I'm just too frugal (okay, cheap) to keep up in that category. I suppose I'm part of the early majority. Here is an example of where some friends and I fall on the curve for one of my favorite technologies.
