Trash Night

Tuesday night is trash night in Madeira. Unbelievably, it rains every Tuesday night and I get soaked taking the trash to the curb. What are the chances of that?

Happy Thanksgiving!
We have so much to be thankful for, and we're especially aware of that this year.

9 to 5
I recently started in a new role at work, and my new position is even harder to describe than my old job. For those interested, this article describes a licensing agreement my company has entered. In my new role, I'm helping to manage the transition of these technologies, their integration with our current systems, and the refinement and continued development of a service that's big news in the research and marketing industries (but really nowhere else).
It'd be much easier to explain and more interesting for show-and-tell if I could say I was a fireman or an astronaut. C'est la vie.

On the Oregon Trail
Oregon, Ohio, that is. We headed north up 75 to this suburb of Toledo this weekend to pick up Cal's grandma for the holidays. Family members in that neck of the woods (including great-grandma Ethel and great, great-aunt Helen, pictured below) were excited to meet Naomi for the first time.
Humorous note: the weather in Toledo this weekend was overcast and in the low 50s, but great-grandma's house was set to a balmy 80 degrees.
On a separate note, Naomi is now able to hold her head up for quite a while, and has just started to be able to roll onto her back from the face-plant position.

What Would Sam Do?
Have you ever heard of this store? The colossal size and influence of this mega-retailer are astounding. It's even borderline frightening to think about what they know about you if you shop there. The new K-Sears-Mart doesn't stand a chance.
We prefer Target, anyway.

Insert Clever Title Here
No major life events or grand happenings to report from this weekend, but we had a nice one relaxing together as a family. I like saying that. Naomi has been really sweet lately - fussing less and smiling more. She even put herself to sleep in a restaurant on Saturday while we had lunch with friends. This may not sound like much to anyone else, but it was heaven for me. A chimichanga never tasted so good.
I'm interested in who's checking the site, beyond my boys that are always scrambling to get the first post, that is. Please click on the comments link below and let us know that you've stopped by.

Love Those Gucks
We were happy to get to spend some time with our very good friends the Guckenbergers last night. They're in town for the week, up from North Carolina, and will soon be moving to Monterrey, Mexico. Cal and I miss hanging out with them on a regular basis, but it's nice that we can always pick right back up when we're able to see each other again.
Humorous note: the girls' hair is extra short right now because Gus decided to cut most of his sisters' hair off while mom and dad weren't looking.

Water Aerobics
These pictures are a couple of weeks old, but they had to be developed from actual film. Don't worry - Naomi has had additional baths since then.

Naomi & Eve
Our good friends Jen and Josh had their baby Eve on the same day Naomi arrived. We were just a few doors down the hall from one another in the hospital. We all get together regularly, and I think Naomi and Eve will be friends. Here are a few pictures from this past Friday night. I think Eve is pooping in that last one.
Yesterday we read several books together. It may be just our wishful thinking, but it seems that Naomi actually pays close attention as we read. She stares at the pages, anyway, and stops crying for a few minutes. I'm working on alternate voices for various characters.

Then & Now
From the night we brought Naomi home from the hospital, and tonight, almost 10 weeks later. She's growing so quickly! Stay tuned - more good pictures from this weekend to come.

It's Cold Out Here, Mom
Cal took Naomi jogging again yesterday. It's getting a bit cold for these endeavors, but she still had fun.

It's Official
Although teamchandler.net isn't a political forum, it is a place for documenting major events in our lives. So for the sake of posterity, and so Naomi can look back and read about this someday, we should record the events of this week.
On November 2, 2004 America voted in record numbers and the race for president was decided by the slimmest of margins in Ohio. 274 electoral votes and 51% of the popular vote put President Bush back in office. Although some provisional ballots remained outstanding, Senator Kerry made a noble decision to concede the race the next day because he believed it would be best for the country not to drag us into a protracted legal battle to decide the outcome.
America is deeply divided right now. While many are disappointed, as Senator Kerry said during his concession speech, "in an American election, there are no losers, because whether or not our candidates are successful, the next morning we all wake up as Americans. And that - that is the greatest privilege and the most remarkable good fortune that can come to us on earth."
On a lighter note, Cal and I really wanted to vote for Senator Palmer, but unfortunately he didn't make it onto Ohio's ballot.
