Firsts

083110_first_day.jpg

Today is a day of firsts in our house. Selah's first day of preschool at a new school. Naomi's first day as a six year old. Mira's first day with just mom and no older sisters. My first official day of living in our minivan...so much driving! All good things (except for the part about the minivan), they'll just take some getting used to.

The Family Bird

We attached a feeder to our kitchen window about a month ago and now have a daily visitor. Often times he's there and gone in a matter of seconds, but on this particular day, he sat for a few minutes, completely still. It was fascinating.

First Day

It doesn't seem possible but my baby girl went to first grade today! I know she's ready and so very excited and that helps ease any anxiety over her days. It's going to be a fantastic year!

Goodbye Summer

080710_naomi.jpg

School officially begins on Thursday which means it's time to bid our summer days farewell. It's bittersweet! We had a summer full of monumental moments and lots of fun - the picture above captures it well. That said, this school year promises to be wonderfully surprising and memorable and we can't wait to get started.

Haircuts

Nom & Selah with their new dos.

The girls have been talking about getting their haircut for weeks. They also had very specific requests and preferences going into the appoitment. Naomi was insistent on bangs (even though Sam, their stylist, and I had our reservations) and Selah a short cut to her cheeks. Their inspirations were different but the results are great. The girls LOVE what Sam did for them and are extremely happy campers. Mission accomplished!

Not For the "Faint" of Heart

Naomi's 6 chin stitches

Nomi and Selah took swim lessons at the YMCA for the first two weeks of summer, and made great progress by the way. Near the end of the second week, Nom jumped in too close to the wall and cracked her chin open. I'd like to say that I was solid as a rock for my child, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I passed out! So, two different ERs and 3 stitches later we were back in business.

We all stayed out of the water for a week to support Nom and let things heal. Stitches were removed last Monday, we were back in the water on Tuesday and BAM...wound reopened. (Notice the other red line parallel to the stitches.) I managed to stay vertical this time but Matt had to be the parent to accompany her to the ER again. This time she came home with six sutures.

Stitches came out this morning but the wound wasn't totally healed so they glued it. Hoping to be back in the water by the end of the week and out of the ER for many years!

A Highlight

060710_dinner.jpg

Our Menu: Wishing Well Pasta, True Love's Kiss Cups and Salt-free Floats.

This week has been an especially challenging one with the girls. I think it's a combination of ages, stages and lots of time together. However, there have been highlights...like outings with friends and family, and the princess themed dinner pictured above. Nomi and Selah chose the menu from a princess cookbook, we made a grocery run for last minute necessities and voila, a perfect girlie dinner. The best part; they ate every bite.
